What LiteTMS is, and why it bills pay-as-you-go

Read as markdown

LiteTMS is a transport management system for carriers and freight forwarders in the EU, and it bills pay-as-you-go. Orders and contractors cost nothing, no matter how many you add. You pay for the seats your people occupy and the services your company actually consumes.

That second sentence is the whole product decision, so it is worth explaining why we made it that way rather than the usual way.

What the software actually does

A transport company has a handful of things it must keep straight every day. Which loads are moving and who is on them. Where the trucks are. Which papers exist and where they went. What was agreed with the customer, and what still needs invoicing.

LiteTMS holds all of that in one workspace: orders with their stops and windows, a fleet register with documents and service dates, a contractor network, files attached to the thing they belong to, chat that lives next to the load it is about, a live map, and invoicing at the end of it. Your drivers get a mobile app the same day, with their assigned orders, one-tap status updates, and a camera for the CMR. It works offline, which matters more than any feature list, because signal in a loading bay is a coin flip.

It is software your company runs for itself. Nobody else can see your orders.

Why the meter does not run on orders

Most transport software bills per shipment, per seat, or both. It is an easy model to build and a miserable one to live with, because the bill goes up exactly when the work gets harder. You dispatch more, you pay more. You have a bad quarter and you are still paying for the seats you sized for the good one.

We looked at that and could not defend it. A record in a database is close to free. Charging you for creating one is a toll booth, not a service.

So orders are free. Contractors are free. Both are unlimited, and neither is counted anywhere. Add ten a month or ten thousand, the number never appears on your invoice. If you are a forwarder, your carrier network is the business, and modelling all of it in full costs you nothing.

What you do pay for

Seats and consumption. That is the entire list.

Seats are billed on daily peak usage, which is a slightly technical way of saying that a quiet month costs less than a busy one. Services are the things that genuinely cost us money when you use them: AI assistant usage, premium routing and map tiles beyond the standard base map, SMS and email sends, voice transcription, file storage. The driver app and the standard maps are included and are not metered.

Every paid feature shows its rate and your usage in the panel before anything reaches an invoice. We would rather you saw the number than discovered it. There is no setup fee, no seat bundle to buy in advance, and no minimum term, so you can stop whenever you want and take your data with you. Registration does mean accepting terms, as it does everywhere, so we will not pretend there is no paperwork at all. What there isn't is a twelve-month lock-in.

We are not going to publish per-unit prices here, because a blog post is forever and prices are not. The live figures are in the panel.

What we are not

We are not a load board, a freight exchange, or a marketplace. There is nothing to browse here and nobody to outbid. LiteTMS is the system you run your own operation on, and the only company in your workspace is yours. Each one sits in its own database.

We are also early. Registration is gated while we roll out, we have no customer count to wave at you, and you should be suspicious of anyone at our stage who does. What we can point at is the product and the way it charges.

If you are still running dispatch on a spreadsheet, the practical version of this argument is in our guide on moving off spreadsheets.

Questions people ask

How much does LiteTMS cost?
You pay for user seats, billed on your daily peak number of active users, plus the services you consume such as AI, premium maps, SMS and email, transcription, and storage. Orders and contractors are free and unlimited, and the driver app and standard maps are included. Current rates are shown in the panel.
Does LiteTMS charge per shipment or per order?
No. Orders are never counted and never charged, whatever your volume. This is the main way the pricing differs from a typical per-shipment TMS.
Is there a contract or a minimum term?
There is no minimum term and no setup fee, and you can stop whenever you want, with your data exportable afterwards. Registration does involve accepting our terms, so it is a service agreement, just not one that locks you in for a year.
Is LiteTMS a freight exchange or a load board?
No. It is a transport management system a company runs for its own operation. There is no public marketplace, and your orders are visible only inside your own workspace.
